Victoria Station is one of London’s biggest and busiest stations. It serves the southern commuter belt along with Kent and the south coast. Victoria Station started as two stations in its early days. In the mid 1850′s the two stations were Victoria Station and Pimlico Railway. The brand new building that was constructed was a simple short walk from Buckingham Palace.
The Italianate architecture was implemented in the building as a way to blend in with the beauty of the district that surrounded it. Victoria Station was utilized by the London Brighton and South Coast Railway. The Great Western Railway also ran some services into the station.
In 1860 James T Knowles designed the Grosvenor Hotel that bordered on Buckingham Palace Road. This was one of the very first railway hotels. Two short years later Chatham and Dover Railway built a terminal. Now while these two operations stood side by side the stations performed daily operations completely independent of one another.
These days the Victoria Station remains to be one of the most busy stations in all of London. You will find that you can get just about anywhere that you would like to go while you are on vacation or traveling for other reasons.
Victoria Station is the gateway to all kinds of exciting places to visit. You can even have a wonderful time taking a moment or several to spend sometime exploring the world famous station before getting on with starting your vacation.
